Adiós Cometa - La isla que somos EP (Velvet Blue Music, 2021)

The first EP by Adiós Cometa combines several of the trends that I have noticed in emerging bands of recent times. In addition to an inclination towards the shoegaze ethos (especially in "Norte", which belongs to labelmates Starflyer 59's school of rock), La Isla que Somos presents typical russian post-punk rhythms ("Luces"), precise rhythmic arrangements (pay attention to the drum fills in "Franco") and a melodic use of the different textures that the combination of reverb, chorus and delay provides ("Gravedad"). The group also included an acoustic note, "Piel", which stands out for its handling of panning and the sense of depth it generates. Perhaps the most interesting feature of the EP is their preference for clean and clear voices, and the interplay between Johnatan, Emanuel and Mark's timbers, which contributes to framing the listening and to adding significant nuances to the thematic unity of the lyrics. In short, a great first step. They could go in any direction from here, and they will probably be just fine.

El primer EP de Adiós Cometa conjuga varias de las tendencias que he notado en bandas emergentes de los últimos tiempos.
